A Thanks And a Note About What’s Ahead

Dear church family,

I am truly excited to begin serving Georges Creek Baptist Church as your pastor. It is amazing to step back and see the Lord’s goodness and grace to my family and me over the past few months. He has walked with us every step of the way in the process of bringing us here to Easley and to Georges Creek Baptist Church. Our Heavenly Father is so good to us.

The reason I’m writing is to say “thank you” and also to share a note about what’s ahead for our weekly gatherings in terms of preaching and teaching.

First, I want to say thank you: Thank you for the warm welcome you’ve given us; thank you for the generosity you’ve shown through meals and household supplies; and thank you for the two weeks that you’ve allowed me to have to get settled in. I’m reminded of God’s kindness in the kindness you have shown to my family and me. On behalf of Liz and the boys I say, “Thank you!”

Next, I want to encourage you to join us on Wednesday nights beginning this week as we spend time in prayer together as a church, and also as we work together through an inductive Bible study of the book of Galatians.

Finally, I want to let you know about my first sermon series. For our first months together we’re going to do a study I’ve called “Truths Worth Dying For.”

There are some truths that are so important that they simply tower above everything else. They are so important that we should dedicate our whole lives to them. And they are so important that we should be willing to experience contempt, suffering, and even death rather than let go of them. And so I want us to spend some time thinking about these truths together as they are revealed to us in God’s word.

Please pray! Pray that the Holy Spirit would lead me as I study and prepare, pray for any unbelievers who will be present during these weeks, and pray that we would all resolve to live and die for these truths.

Blessings in Christ,

Pastor John
