Mission Trip to Windswept Academy

This summer we will be taking a mission trip to South Dakota to work with the people of windswept academy as they seek to minister to the children there who are living in poverty.

Twenty members of Georges Creek Baptist Church will travel to Eagle Butte, South Dakota, during July 15-21, to minister to the children of Windswept Academy, a private, non-denominational Christian school dedicated to providing students from the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation with a Christ-centered, quality, academic education in a Biblically directed learning environment. In September, 2017, it began its ninth year with 92 students ranging in age from kindergarten to tenth grade. The school’s mission is to prepare students for leadership and Christian service in their community and the world.

Our mission trip is in memory of Pastor Chris Walker, our former pastor who fought a brave battle against cancer and died in March, 2017. Pastor Chris was a huge supporter of Windswept Academy and its administrator, Anne Konor, who started Windswept Academy in 2009.

Eagle Butte, SD, is home of one of the poorest zip codes in America. The Indian children face hunger, abuse, and neglect on a daily basis. If someone doesn’t positively guide them by the time they are in the third grade, they will turn to drugs and alcohol as their parents have done.

Our mission is as follows:

  • conduct a Vacation Bible School for three days;
  • provide recreation and a small carnival for the children; and
  • improve school facilities by installing mini blinds and dry erase boards, building picnic tables, painting, and doing small repairs as needed.

If you would like to make a donation toward our mission trip expenses, please contact our church office at 864.859.6789. We have an account in place for donations.

We ask that you please keep us in your prayers daily, asking God to direct us as we plan for the trip, to provide the necessary funds for expenses, and to give us discernment as we minister to these children.

Windswept Academy is in great need of support. A wide range of opportunities exists for the involvement of supporters at all levels. If you are interested in joining with us to reach out to the children of the Lakota Nation, please click here to find out how.
